Procam International geared up for the 14th Mumbai Marathon 2017

Procam International, promoters of the Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) 2017, today announced the preparations taken for hosting the 14th edition of Asia’s Premier Marathon at the SCMM Media Centre at Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Mumbai.

Milind Bharambe, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Vivek Singh, Jt. MD, Procam International, Hugh Jones, Race Director, Dr. Nilesh Gautam, Medical Director and Satish Uchil, Technical representative from AFI announced the various measures and facilities put in place to facilitate the smooth flow of the event and give the participants a satisfying running experience.

The Full Marathon for Amateurs will be flagged off from outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) at 5.40 am followed by the Full Marathon for the Elite and Indian athletes at 7.20 am. Both these races will finish at CST.

The competitive event for the city’s police, the Police Cup will be flagged off at 5.40 am from Worli Dairy along with Half Marathon. The Police Cup will have 40 teams; each team comprises of 2 members, who will run approximately 10.5 km each. The winners of the Police Cup will be awarded a rotating trophy along with merit certificates and medals to the members. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.40,000 and the runner-up team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.30,000. The third place finisher will get Rs.20,000 and fourth place will get Rs.10,000/-

The half marathon race will be flagged off at 5.40 am from Worli Dairy, then go on to the Sea Link, and trace the same route back as the Marathon to finish opposite CST.

SCMM has become a new chapter in my life and I am delighted to have had the satisfaction of being associated with it from the start and watching it grow over the years since 2004. We have with us something that is resilient and refined across every field and we do not want to be complacent and will continue to take notes and do better every year”

For the convenience of half marathon participants there will be a shuttle service from Currey Road station on the Central Railway and Lower Parel on the Western Railway lines. These buses, that are free for all half marathon participants wearing valid bibs, will operate from 3.30 am to 5.00 am on race day 15th January 2017.

The Champions with Disability run will begin at 07.35 am from CST and finish near Gate No. 3 of Azad Maidan, opposite Metro Adlabs. The Senior Citizens Run will also start at CST at 8.00 am before finishing near Gate No. 3 of Azad Maidan. The Dream Run will begin at 9.00 am from CST and finish near Gate No. 3 of Azad Maidan.

The Senior Citizens’ Run will be flagged off by Tina Ambani, Founder & Chairperson, Harmony For Silvers Foundation, Bollywood personalities Sonali Bendre, Tarak Mehta fame Shailesh Lodha, Piyush Pandey and Gulshan Grover.

Medical Partner with SCMM for the past 12 years, the Asian Heart Institute announced the arrangements instituted for the runners. AHI has contributed state-of-the-art facilities and services to ensure a safe run for all those participating. With its entire medical infrastructure in place, Asian Heart Institute can aptly handle any medical emergency - injuries, dehydration, or any other complication arising due to long distance running.

Dr. Nilesh Gautam, Medical Director, Asian Heart Institute said, "This is a proud moment for us, to associated with the Mumbai Marathon since its inception. This marathon is one of the safest marathons to run in. This year we have 600 volunteers with us. For the first time we will be training 60 volunteers in the DCLS course who will be capable of performing CPR.We have also trained some policemen who will be participating in the 7K Dream Run. "

Satish Uchil, Technical Representative, AFI said,"AFI has been an integral part of the Mumbai Marathon since the first edition in 2004.We have deputed senior AFI official, Mr. Tony Daniel this year for SCMM and under his guidance 95 officials have also been assigned to see to the race. I have experienced a lot of marathons all over India and can honestly say that SCMM has a full proof plan, having one of the best courses and full support from the police and also the BMC. "

Race Day proceedings will be telecast live on Star Sports 4, Star Sports HD 4 & Hotstar the Channel Partner from 7.00 am to 11.00 am.
